Kelvin Fletcher Testimonial

When I first met Colin his enthusiasm for photography and artistic finesse was instantly obvious. Don’t think I’d ever talked to somebody who painted such a clear picture of what shots and looks he likes and we were on the same wavelength from the off. He also had lots of ideas and it really gave me a sense of trust and reassurance. It may be a cliché but he really wanted the pics to be as good as I wanted them to be!

Throughout shoots he’s relaxed and great company allowing you to express yourself and indulge in your most comfortable states and even effortlessly challenge you to try something new, thus the reason I wanted Colin to shoot my young brother Brayden who is a stranger to a camera and only just delving into the media world at 17, Colin immediately put him at ease. I’ve done many shoots with many photographers but it’s always Colin’s pics that seem to do me any justice! Great guy and a fantastic talent.

Colin’s was the first website I opened when I was searching for a photographer to do some new headshots for me as I was leaving one job, and preparing for the next…

I didn’t really know what to expect in terms of price or the experience; I’d had some done before, but it was a favour from a photographer friend, and I’d changed a lot since those pictures were taken. I wanted to shop around but kept getting drawn back to the website, where I had also seen the headshots of one of my work friends. I asked what his experience was like and, well, all you have to do is go and read Ian Puleston-Davis’ testimonial too! I instantly felt confident that I’d chosen the right guy for the job and phoned him within the next ten minutes.

He. Was. Lovely. He advised me on what to bring to the shoot, offered the services of the fantastic makeup artist who he works with, Rebecca Tupman, and we even discussed what kind of roles I aimed to be cast in; a good point made, which I found invaluable, because after all, your headshot is the first thing a casting director sees.

On the day of the shoot, we talked about everything from music to photography; being a fellow photographer you can imagine the geeky, excited atmosphere! I had three outfit changes and for each one, Colin gave me a different character to think about, which really helped the overall look of the images; I did some smiley, geeky, girl-next-door ones, and some dramatic, period drama/theatrical ones.

Working with Colin is so easy; and that’s the easiest way of putting it. He’s a breath of fresh air and where some people may find having stills taken a traumatic experience, he will make it seem like you do it every day.

Throughout the whole shoot, he never stopped smiling, talking me through every bit of equipment and what it did and why he was using it. The only time I stopped smiling was when I had to keep a straight face on a photo, and even then, sometimes we had to take a minute because I’d be trying not to giggle.

I can’t recommend the team at Neilson Reeves enough. A great day followed by stunning results. I will return to Colin the next time I need headshots doing, no matter where I may happen to be based

I was taking a coffee break from shooting a music video at the Sharp project when I was drawn to these fabulous head shots in the window of the Neilson Reeves Photographic Studio. They were really exciting and innovative.

As serendipity would have it: I needed new photographs and Colin had the time. We arranged to meet the following week for a quick coffee and a chat that lasted three hours! The deal was sealed, on the proviso that the next time we would not spend the whole session gassing like two old fish wives.

Right, so, here’s the thing…IF you are wanting a bog standard ‘sit in front of the camera and smile type of session’, I’m sure Colin can accommodate. However, he is so much more. If you want to go off piste as it were, enjoy the ride, because the moment you walk into his relaxed studio and start talking shots with him, you know you’re going to be well looked after.

The session made for an inventive, creative, ambitious time. Colin not only knows what he’s doing but he also very cleverly makes you think it’s you leading the session. A mark of a good photographer?

I believe trust is essential to get the best photographs, and right from the get go Colin puts you at ease as he explains carefully what he thinks would make the perfect photograph for both your face and your personality. It really is a collaborative process. At all times I was made to feel that my input and ideas were integral to the photo shoot.

Colin throughout the session showed me the taken pictures while we discussed how best to improve them. I even had a say on the choice of music we listened to!

Once we were both satisfied we had got the traditional actor head shot in the bag, we were able to experiment and have fun trying different types of poses in the various outfits I’d been asked to bring along (including amongst other ‘props’, top hat and cane!)

The very next day I was sent a selection. And I loved them…more importantly, so did my agent.

Needless to say, Colin has my whole hearted approval. He is, appropriately, head and shoulders above the rest. He also happens to be a genuinely lovely guy with bags of energy and a true passion for his art.

Headshot sessions always have me apprehensive, for whatever reasons, and my experiences in the past have been extremely varied, and definitely hit and miss. Yet, with Colin I felt immediately at ease and would have to say it’s one of the best shoots I’ve had. A really lovely atmosphere, and efficiently and very professionally done, the final product was great and I found myself spoilt for choice in choosing final shots.
